Announcing Zambelly Auditions!

Zambelly

Zambelly will be Zambia’s first Oriental and belly dance troupe dedicated to educating and enchanting new audiences about this beautiful, ancient feminine dance form. Dancers will performan a variety of Oriental, Middle Eastern and belly dance choreographies at community and charity events in Lusaka.

Female dancers experienced in ethnic and/or modern dance forms, as well as current Oriental dance students (that’s you!), are invited to audition for a spot on Zambelly, where over three months, you’ll learn two choreographies and prepare to perform as a group at an upcoming professional dance showcase in Lusaka. Talent, commitment to weekly rehearsals, a willingness to learn and pitch in, and a sense of humor are required for successful candidates. Dance with other women, discover your inner belly dancer, and shine on stage!

Information for Auditioning Dancers

Thanks for your interest in auditioning for Zambelly!

I am looking for 5-6 dancers with a strong background in modern dance, ethnic dance or exposure Oriental dance to join Zambelly. You think you’ve got what it takes?

First, please send me a small bio of yourself and your dance background or experience, why you’re interested in joining Zambelly and a headshot via email and confirm your participation in the audition.

If you are brand new to Oriental dance, I highly recommend you attend one of my classes, either at 6:30 to 7:30 PM on Wednesdays or 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Sundays at Shakespeare Court, to find if this dancing style is right for you. Drop-in rates for classes are 50 Kwacha.

The audition will be held at 2 PM sharp on Saturday, March 14 at Shakespeare Court in Leopards Hill. Pre-registration with me is required so that we can accommodate all interested dancers booked by time slot.

For the audition, please come early to warm up and wear clothing you can move in. Bring a song you can dance a two minute choreography to—this can be whatever song or dance style you like (classical Indian, ballet, Zambian folkloric, tap dancing, etc), this is your moment to show me what you’ve got! (The song should be on a phone or MP3 player that has a audio jack.) If you take Oriental or belly dance classes with me, you are welcome to use a song and choreography I have taught you before.

After all applicants have danced their two minute routines for me in private, I will ask everyone to join me to learn a short Oriental dance routine and perform it for me.

The audition is designed to allow you to show off your dance skills and for me to gauge your ability to pick up choreography and Oriental dance steps quickly. It will be a non-scary audition—I want you to feel comfortable so you can dance your best. I will take occasional notes, and I will be looking for dance talent, strong stage presence, willingness to learn and a sense of humor.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have any questions before the audition.

I look forward to seeing you there! Please email me at info@elisabeth.dance to confirm interest and to send a copy of your bio and dance background, why you want to join Zambelly and a headshot.

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Elisabeth
